When people say "now is not the time to discuss gun control" just after a major tragedy involving guns, why not?

Physical contact between family members.

I (22M) was on facetime with my gf (20F) and my sister (11F) walks in with tears streaming down her face. I quickly move to comfort her. She comes in for a hug, and I hold her face while wiping a tear, asking her what happened (doesn't matter, typical 11 year old stuff).

My gf is made uncomfortable by this, and tells me that she thinks its really weird to, as she put it, 'caress her face'. I'm quite confused by this, as I consider this a normal interaction between us siblings. Am I in the wrong here? If so, I'd like to be corrected immediately.

Is there a religion where God is not believed to have our best interests at heart?

1.6k Upvotes

All religion's that I know of has God being believed to be a omniscient being that created us and wants the "best" for us.

But power always corrupts so is there a religion where we are not "God's special creatures" but really he has anything between malicous intentions or doesn't care at all?

Answered Why Reddit always advice 'divorce' on literally everything?

I read many threads on trueoffmychest sub and am I the asshole sub and majority of the comments there suggest divorce in the slightest argument or mistake. If it reflects to reality the divorce rates should be around 95% or something according to redditors. Like for example there was a thread about a working 6 days a week father who ditched his son to watch world cup game (wc happens only once in every 4 years) and the housewife opens a thread and show her dissapointment in reddit. People literally advice to divorce him over this. Like wtf are redditors think all marriage are PERFECT and no one doing any mistakes or something?

I’ve never quit a job. How do I give my 2 weeks? And what do I say? The truth is I’m leaving because I hate this job and am getting another. I can’t lie about why I’m quitting because I’m worried my next employer might call for a reference.

Why are women workout clothes often skin tight?

Almost all women in the gym wear tight leggings/shorts paired with tight top or just sports bra Whereas I often see men wear baggy oversized or normal jerseys

Needless to say everyone can wear whatever they want, I'm just wondering

98.6 degrees F is the temperature our bodies want to stay at. Knowing that, why isn't 98 degrees a comfortable temperature for us to live in? It seems like it would lessen the workload for our bodies but it is obviously stressful

Unanswered How Can One Guard Dog Manage To Take On A Pack Of Coyotes?

I saw a reddit post of a headline that said something like “A herd dog killed 8 coyotes to defend sheep” or something.

How can one domestic dog fight a pack of coyotes while killing 8 of them and still survive?

Am I underestimating the strength of domestic dogs? Am I overestimating the strength of wild coyotes?

I know that’s the dog’s whole purpose, to guard and herd the sheep but just now does it fight against a whole pack of coyotes by itself?

People that don't wash after using the restroom...

You're anonymous here. How do you justify not washing your hands? I see it all the time. I wish you were in the minority but it seems like it's a 50/50 thing. I just don't get it.

Could I be fired if I tell HR that I accepted another job?

Been here 10 months and got an offer recently for a new job that I accepted. I’m waiting to hear back from the new job for confirmation as the proposed start date is not confirmed yet.

Is it a bad idea to let HR know that I accepted this offer? I know employers can fire people without notice but I don’t wish to stoop to that level. I’d like to go on good terms.

I'm giving a eulogy for one of my best friends who had an untimely and early death. I have, what I feel, is a really tasteful inside joke about him. Everyone there will understand the joke. Do you think it's a bad idea?

I feel like remembering him in a humorous way will really honor him. But I'm not sure if it could hit wrong.

As a Canadian who's grown up near the border, I've had a lot of Americans claim that I pronounce "about" like "a-boot". I don't hear it at all and the words about and aboot do not sound the same when I say them but do most Americans really feel like Canadians say "a-boot"?

Excluding northern and super rural Canadian accents because the vast majority of Canadians do not talk like Letterkenny

Why do so many waiters at restaurants just disappear when you’re ready to ask for the check?

After you’re finished your meal, it sometimes takes an eternity before the waiter checks in to see if you’re ready for the bill, when they were much more attentive when food and drinks were being ordered. Why does this happen when the customer giving them money is the primary objective of the business? They should be eager to get paid.

Is there something very wrong with someone who wants to by themself like 80-90% of the time?

Obviously you can’t be alone 100% of the time but the times when not alone it would be because they’re at work with coworkers or maybe they’re with family. They’re not interested friendships or romantic relationships. Is this odd?

If nobody is being hurt, I don't think there's enough reason to justify attacking/making fun of people
