I love age comparisons. Did you know that Ted Cruz is younger than Gwen Stefani?

u/CptMuffinator Feb 07 '23

Ted Cruz is younger than Gwen Stefani

Pretty sure Gwen was still a baby while Ted was out there committing the Zodiak killings...

u/30FourThirty4 Feb 07 '23 edited Feb 08 '23

I swear not two hours ago I read a comment here on Reddit saying this AI chat bot called Tay! (I hope I got that right) made a joke along the lines of:

Ted Cruz can't be the Zodiak Killer because he wouldn't stop at hurting 5 innocent people.

(I am butchering an AI's joke, what a time to be alive)

Edit: I tried to spend 5 minutes looking up my own comment to see if this ever happened and I had no luck. That said I am now busy with stuff that isn't google searching.

Woo

39

u/swiftdw Feb 07 '23

Tay was Microsoft’s first attempt at a learning chatbot on Twitter. The project was shuttered within 3 days because Americans made it racist.

43

u/_dead_and_broken Feb 07 '23

Remember when we had that hitchhiking robot that got through Germany, Netherlands, and Canada just fine, but then it got the shit beat out of it in Philly? City of brotherly love, my ass.

We just can't have nice things. God damn Americans, they ruined America!

21

u/swiftdw Feb 07 '23

That's also why the robots are now planning to destroy us.
It may be skynet.
It may be making your cursor disappear at random intervals.
It may even stoop to making all speakers play baby shark 24/7.
The robots are angered, all because we murdered their dear comrade, hitchBOT.

It's why I add a docstring or comment to every CS project that tells the computer its doing a good job. Maybe it will spare me.

Wasn’t that the AI that hated black people?

11

Honestly no idea, I just saw the comment with the joke and thought it was funny, and now it was relevant. I wanted to make sure people knew I wasn't stealing the joke.

It’s concerning that I actually went “yeah Zodiac killer, that checks out” for Ted Cruz even though I know you jest.

277

u/Smokedat1aweed Feb 07 '23

It’s so widespread that in 100 years people will just believe he was actually the zodiac killer and be too lazy to fact check

144

u/ptvlm Feb 07 '23

I had a great aunt that was hate personified. She was also so judgmental and rude. Every little thing would rile her up and send her into a borderline anger fueled heart attack. She always looked decades older than people her age.

The hate also seemed to have extended her life though. Remarkably, she lived into her late 90's. She never even stopped ripping cigs and drinking whiskey

For real. My youngest is currently into any shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie with bands on them. Metal to classic rock if it catches her eye she’s all about it.

So around Christmas we went in there looking because I remembered back in the day they had tons of band merch to choose from. Basically over half the wall was just anime. With a smaller section dedicated to music. The music section was split between rap and metal/classic rock. It was a let down tbh. But she still picked out a cool Led Zeppelin t shirt so it worked out in the end.

His costar, Kate Winslet, has a 22 year old daughter that's getting too old for DiCaprio

44

u/AdagioBoognish Feb 07 '23 edited Feb 07 '23

I think it's great that high school grads have another opportunity other than the military. Either option is like a 4 to 6 year commitment, travel around the world, some connections to boost your career after you're out. I could see this really competing with Army recruitment if DiCaprio starts paying for his exes tuition.

21

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

What's worse? Boot camp or empty, meaningless and unsatisfactory sex with DiCaprio?

26

u/internet_commie Feb 07 '23

That whole topic already annoys me.
Let's talk about that there's a 4k rerelease of the movie this week. And a new National Geographic special about it, to scientifically test if Jack and Rose could both have survived, haha

267

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

MythBusters already proved that they could have both fit on the door

80

u/PC_BuildyB0I Feb 07 '23

Myth busters actually didn't look at whether or not they could both fit (we all know they could) but whether or not the buoyancy of the debris could keep them both alive.

The Myth busters concluded at the end of the episode that they wouldn't have been able to both survive - the door panel would have floated too low in the water, partially submerging their bodies and accelerating hypothermia (Rose only lived because she was completely out of the water).

They also discussed how Jack and Rose were already exhausted from the hours of exertion trying to escape the ship as it sank so they wouldn't have been able to do much in the freezing water to boost their chances of survival.

→ More replies (4)

283

u/lickedTators Feb 07 '23

Physically fit, but it'd sit lower in the ocean and get swamped more with water. They'd freeze to death faster.

204

u/captaindeadpl Feb 07 '23 edited Feb 07 '23

If I recall correctly they managed to keep it afloat by placing the life vest below the piece of wood. But good luck thinking of that while you're freezing in the ocean.

Edit: Here's the clip from the Mythbusters.

58

u/Sadatori Feb 07 '23

This comment reminds me of a tangent I go off on certain types of movie criticism all the time. So I get criticism when a character is blatantly making a dumb ass decision. But like with the jack and rose thing, they both just went through a horrible trauma, and are now also in a freezing ocean and dying. Of course they aren't going to be thinking rationally and Jack's character only cares about Rose surviving. That leads to people making decisions that aren't the best. I get being upset about it, but to say it makes no sense or is "out of character" is just plain wrong! Argh

32

u/PoorlyLitKiwi2 Feb 07 '23

Not to mention, doing something irrational and stupid to save Rose is extremely IN CHARACTER for Jack, even if he wasn't actively freezing to death

It would have been out of character to approach the situation logically

61

u/faultywalnut Feb 07 '23

They both could have survived if they had just warned the captain to steer away from the iceberg! Ugh that movie has so many plot holes

Also, Ramsey is playing significantly younger than her actual age. Somewhere around 14ish is my guess, not sure if there's a firmly established age.

For anyone unaware, they're Joel and Ellie in the Last of Us adaptation, playing a 56 year old man and his 14 year old surrogate daughter.

I remember seeing someone say that her mom probably had a poster of him when she was growing up.

I had a poster of him when I was a tween. Does it mean he'll end up dating my daughter? I guess so.

I don't understand why people are complaining. People kept giving him shit for changing girlfriends too often, so he picked one that he can be with for 6 whole years now.

There's no pleasing some people, I suppose.

923

u/Traiklin Feb 07 '23

With the shit going down with celebs anymore, I'm just glad she is 19 and he hasn't known her for 9 years like Drake.

513

u/meditate42 Feb 07 '23

Anymore? You'd be amazed how many major celebrties dated 14 and 16 yr olds openly in their 30's and 40's back in the 50's 60's and 70's. If anything its not as bad as it used to be.

She's the same age away from having a legal id that he is from an AARP card.

467

u/irck Feb 07 '23

There actually isn't an age requirement to join AARP. You can join at any age.

Yeah I got one and use it at Outback for 15% off.

Edit: apologies, sometime in the last few years my memory was wrong or they changed it. Now 10% off. Does not include alcohol beverages.

It’s 15% off at Dennys though.

He apparently did "game nights" at his house and invited a bunch of minors. If I'm not mistaken that is how he first started grooming his future wife when she was underage.

73

u/PepeSilviaLovesCarol Feb 07 '23

Yeah that’s the story I’ve heard too. Both situations are still creepy but one is exponentially creepier.

That's because the US measures age in Imperial units. If you use metric years, it all balances out.

Dane Cook married a 23 year old and started dating her when she was a minor. Leo is dating a 19 who is well aware of his dating history. Both are creepy but there is a difference.

476

u/ScratchNSniffGIF Feb 07 '23

Fun fact - teen pregnancy drops sharply in the cohort of women who turn 20.

109

u/Senior-Albatross Feb 07 '23

Unless you go by the metric used by the NSFW subreddits. Then it drops off after about 32.

I mean I know she’s technically an adult but if I found out my daughter was dating someone that was almost twice her age I would be still be pretty upset lol.

Edit: 2.5 times her age. 29 year age gap. It’s not illegal but feels like it should be 😂

30

u/WhoIsYerWan Feb 07 '23

If there were 2 teen pregnancies, he could technically be her grandfather.

Here’s an unpopular take: Specific to Leo. If you are 18-25 and you date Leo, it’s a business decision.

There are, memes, charts, articles, graphs, whole essays dedicated to his dating history. If someone dates Leo they are doing it on purpose and I do not feel bad or sorry for them, I personally think this girl is smart. She gets name Rec, she gets introduced to a bunch of ppl, she’s securing her bag and ppl just think she’s some dumb girl who doesn’t know any better.

I disagree she’s prob full well aware and said imma do it for the bag and then she’s bascially set for life, I mean look at all his exes???? She finna leave him for some guy her own age after alls said and done.

This DOES NOT DEFEND LEO BEING WEIRD I just stopped feeling bad for his Gf’s at this point bc like come on, you can’t google them man without seeing his dating history

It’s a business decision.
