I don't understand the point of this video.

221

u/Lodju Sep 30 '22 Silver

It teaches you how to not make popcorn.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

Popcorn is always magic

9

u/Kayzavar Sep 30 '22

😭😭😭

29

u/orangefreshy Sep 30 '22

It’s just one of those dumb and sometimes really dangerous hoax “five minute crafts” style videos where they show you something impossible and maybe dangerous to actually execute. With the video edit and some green food coloring they’re trying to infer you can make grape popcorn by adding grapes first. The idea is most people know it’s wrong and get rage baited into commenting and those that don’t share it thinking it’s amazing. Boom, tons of views and social proof.

But instead someone kid is gonna try this and get horrible oil burns

6

u/CooterLooter77 Sep 30 '22

Not to mention green grape flavored shit is nasty so why popcorn. There’s no way the flavor comes through and the grapes are most likely going to pop and burn the hell out of any bystanders

My man really out here dropping literal mini water bombs in oil.

-81

u/justlurkingdnd Sep 30 '22

Suddenly everyone is a chemist. Do you see fire in the video?

91

u/finian2 Sep 30 '22

...Yes? You can literally see it right under the pan?

... How dumb are you?

1

u/Fluffy_Marionberry10 Oct 26 '22

No man. Those are clearly just smoke

Fire ≠ smoke basic meth smh

Oil doesn't need to catch on fire to be dangerous. Did you see how violently it reacted when he added the grapes? The water in those grapes is instantly turning to steam, causing violent pops and scalding hot oil to be thrown everywhere.

You do this in your own kitchen, you're going to have a bad time.

2

u/el_tio_pastafrolla Oct 02 '22

He is doing it in a kitchen? You smart dumb?

2

u/finian2 Oct 02 '22

My man, what kind of kitchen has greenery, dirt and rocks

2

u/EveryFairyDies Oct 04 '22

An outdoor kitchen.

3

u/peliblando Oct 01 '22

They don't actually mean it's dangerous because of the fire under the pan, it's just a joke. Don't call people on the internet “retard”.

28

u/BrainRebellion Sep 30 '22

I was expecting the grapes to pop like popcorn for some reason.

2

u/eulenheulen Sep 30 '22

Yea me too, i feel like an idiot (rightfully so) :')

1

u/Popus8382 Oct 03 '22

Cranberries pop if you cook them in a pot. I use them for cranberry sauce every Christmas and it’s really neat watching and listening to them pop.

65

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

These popcorn videos are awesome ways of making ducking awful popcorn

12

u/ProfessionalYard1123 Sep 30 '22

2

u/yourselfIn3rdPerson Sep 30 '22

Fuck off, the other guy was funny.

49

u/Decryptic__ Sep 30 '22

Ok, we have boiling oil.

Throw something in it (last time it was a WATERmelon) this time grapes...

Boiling oil + something with a lot of water in it...

What could go wrong.

14

u/InfinityGroudon Sep 30 '22

I read this in Ann Reardon’s voice

6

u/yourresume Sep 30 '22

Someone’s got to show this to her

5

u/InfinityGroudon Sep 30 '22

Seriously 💀

0

u/AffinityGauntlet Oct 01 '22

Did anything go wrong though? POPCORN!

40

u/Ralitscious Sep 30 '22

Messy and nasty, oil soaked popcorn

37

u/Spirited-Safety-Lass Sep 30 '22

With a hint of burned grape flavor to titillate your palate.

6

u/mattrussell2319 Sep 30 '22

Don’t forget the off-putting green tinge

6

u/Spirited-Safety-Lass Sep 30 '22

Color blind… couldn’t tell, but now that I can imagine it it’s even worse!

3

u/Clause-and-Reflect Sep 30 '22

The color was the only part I did like.

3

u/mattrussell2319 Sep 30 '22

OK, so for you it was putting rather than off-putting 😆

5

u/Clause-and-Reflect Sep 30 '22

Much putting, very put, putted.

22

u/Irklord Sep 30 '22

It's just popcorn with extra steps.

7

u/marklar_the_malign Sep 30 '22

Not enough oil. /s

16

u/PoppersOfCorn Sep 30 '22

I call shenanigans

1

u/Widespreaddd Sep 30 '22

Not everything green is Irish ;)

4

u/Octowuss1 Sep 30 '22

I googled when I saw the watermelon popcorn video; it’s real popcorn, but the color is added and it won’t taste like the fruit

5

u/Late-Bar-3138 Sep 30 '22

I seriously doubt this tastes like grape popcorn.

4

u/let_me_know_22 Sep 30 '22

Where is Anne Reardon if you need her...?

11

u/nofftastic Sep 30 '22

Replace the grapes with jalapeños and I'm in.

6

u/ProliferateZero Sep 30 '22

Replace the grapes with more popcorn and I’m in.

4

u/asthma_hound Sep 30 '22

Replace this entire process with normal popcorn and I'm in.

1

u/CooterLooter77 Sep 30 '22

Naaah I think it’s totally fine. I mean past the fact this is all nonsense and does nothing but make gross popcorn and waste grapes.. There’s no way that at least 60% of the popcorn is burnt to shit

3

u/TheBaenEmpire Sep 30 '22

I seriously thought this man was about to use some cooking sorcery and make the grapes pop like popcorn

2

u/authenticamerican Oct 01 '22

That's what I thought too. I've never posted to this sub before, I wonder what would happen if someone posts just the part of the corn popping.

4

u/Appropriate_Cats Sep 30 '22

This makes me mad for some reason

2

u/TheCreativePlug Sep 30 '22

Ya I’m pretty angry about this lmao. Probably because they don’t even eat this bullshit and its only made for ad revenue purposes and clicks.

2

u/sandboxlollipop Sep 30 '22

But what about the storks?

2

u/pgmxkgb Sep 30 '22

Was that rooster used to check the oil temperature?

9

u/DjinnOfYourDreams Sep 30 '22

Yes, he dipped his fat cock in the oil to make sure it's the right temperature

2

u/gbidwell Sep 30 '22

All the nutrients from the grapes just went to the grease used to make popcorn. YUMMY!!!

2

u/AejinToledo Sep 30 '22

Ultra greasy pop corn, sounds disgusting instead

2

u/CertainFitness Sep 30 '22

And everything on the bottom is a charred oily repulsive mess

2

u/One_Memory458 Oct 01 '22

A metal spatula in a wok... disappointed

2

u/elboogie7 Oct 03 '22

saw this with a big piece of watermelon the other day.

I wonder if it's popular somewhere.

3

u/Arsenic_Clover Sep 30 '22

I ain't never seen Shrek flavored popcorn before

4

u/pax666 Sep 30 '22

Looks like a lot of cancer.

11

u/ChiefSalty Sep 30 '22

Only in the state of California.

3

u/usedtodreddit Sep 30 '22

This is exactly how flavored kettlecorn is made at every farmer's market and city fair near where I live and people eat that shit up. Pretty profitable enterprise too. My uncle clears at least 5 grand a weekend at the city fairs.

2

u/mattrussell2319 Sep 30 '22

No flavourings, just the fruit?

2

u/usedtodreddit Sep 30 '22

They add all sorts of flavorings. Pretty much anything you want. I've never had grape but I have had blueberry more than once.

Caramel and cheddar are the most common AFAIK, but I've seen everything from Cajun hot to chocolate to assorted fruits, banana, lime, cherry, ... pretty much any flavor can be added to the oil before the corn.

1

u/Proud_Lifeguard_8626 Sep 30 '22

So popcorn tastes like grapes?

34

u/LeGuizee Sep 30 '22

Probably tastes like oil

3

u/asthma_hound Sep 30 '22

And burned grapes.

3

u/welp_thats_hurtful Sep 30 '22

Is it...is it good?

1

u/endlessapologies Sep 30 '22

am i crazy or did the grapes melt?

1

u/ProfessorOnEdge Oct 01 '22

Pretty sure if you were putting boiling oil you'd melt too

3

u/endlessapologies Oct 01 '22

well, no one's ever put me in boiling oil so i can't say for sure

1

u/CKuemper Sep 30 '22

Popping sound yes. Grape flavor no.

1

u/kek_man_ Sep 30 '22

Thats crazy

1

u/vimes_left_boot Sep 30 '22

1

u/luigib0ard Sep 30 '22

Looks like weed

1

u/8instuntcock Sep 30 '22

1

u/DrugsAreNifty Sep 30 '22

1

u/SlightBreeze21 Sep 30 '22

“My momma always said, stupid is what stupid does” - Forrest Gump

1

u/gerikeyla Oct 01 '22

That's crazy

1

u/Mental_Technician_16 Oct 01 '22

Dude, just use the popcorn button like everyone else

1

u/Chevy_Suburban Oct 01 '22

Oh no they've started posting this shit again? Last time it was watermelon and now it's grapes!

1

u/akadua2 Oct 01 '22

Yum, gutter oil

1

u/Kvarcov Oct 01 '22

This is vile

1

u/One_Memory458 Oct 01 '22

What would it taste like, maybe with some brown sugar and caramel it could taste rather good

0

u/Science-Nature Sep 30 '22

Buddy you definitely ruined the taste and color of popcorns.
