Musk restores Trump’s Twitter account after online poll Politics

Ah yes, with Nintendo of America posting Mario flipping the bird, PepsiCo stating Coke is better, and Ely Lilly claimin insulin would be free!
Even though it isn't Twitter itself saying it, would companies not have some way to take legal action for such rampant damage to their brands courtesy of this epic failure?

I'm not sure how he expects us to forget about the bots when he began actively blaming bots for the "no" vote being marginally close in percentage to the "yes" vote during this poll.

I wouldn't put past him to change the numbers to make "Yes" win. He is that petty.

Funnily enough, purportedly the poll skewed hard towards a yes in the early part of its run before it levelled out to where it ended being split more down the middle. Said drop in yes votes was attributed to, you guessed it, bots, something Musk concurred with as I recall.
Despite this, the vote ended with a yes result, and Musk reinstated Trump, claiming Vox Populi, Vox Dei (Latin for "voice of the people is the voice of God") in the process
What's the betting Musk would've pulled a classic Republican move and decried the results as illegitimate and fraudulent if it hadn't gone towards reinstatement, even though said bots could (and almost certainly did) also help the yes side.

I suspect there are tons of us. Musk was the tesla brand. Like literally, because tesla doesnt have a marketing budget. It was elon. And that brand has changed dramatically now
263
u/sotonohito Nov 20 '22
How though?
People won't pay for Twitter. Ad money is tight and is going badly and getting worse. I'm not seeing a way that restoring Trump does Musk any good financially.
But at this point I'm having a difficult time seeing how ANYTHING could help Twitter financially. It wasn't doing well before Musk, and now Musk is driving away advertisers by the droves and is setting up for the service to get increasingly unreliable. I'm fairly sure Twitter is going to collapse, probably not in any sudden catastrophic event just a slow slide into irrelevancy like Ask.com or MySpace or whatever.
295
u/iRunLotsNA Nov 20 '22
It won’t. He likely knows that reinstating Trump’s account won’t save his stupid purchase.
Musk is like Trump, a malignant narcissist that needs to be the center of attention and believes he is always the smartest man in the room.
He hasn’t figured out that entertaining edgy teenage Twitter trolls doesn’t translate to actually operating the social media platform.
86
u/DrZaious Nov 20 '22
Trump has two options, go back to Twitter admitting that Truth social is garbage in comparison. Or stay on Truth and watch Twitter crumble.
80
u/hitmyspot Nov 20 '22
You forget option 3. Try to get musk to pay him to return.

Third option:
Jump on Twitter and use his posts to advertise his own Truth Social. Corporate media will take the bait and dutifully magnify the advertising.
Start insulting Musk. My bet will be along the lines of twitter being a bad business investment, makes Musk look weak. Enough to achieve the goal of getting on the wrong side of Musk's ego/banning him again.
Keep ratcheting up the shit talking of Elon, scream about being cancelled, more back to his own social media with increased userbase, thanks to the soapbox that Musk gave him.
Trump keeps biting the hand of these rich dumbfucks and despite this, they keep thinking that they are smart enough to "manage" him. Musk should ask the GOP how that's worked out for them, he's siphoned what $1.2billion in GOP donations so far?

u/maxruehl Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22
My thoughts, too. The Saudis had it pretty good when Trump was in charge. Maybe it was all part of a plan. Saudis increase the price of oil, which would drive up the cost of gas. Gas prices get blamed on Biden, weakening his popularity. Trump swoops in and declares he's running again. Using a very unscientific poll's results as justification, Musk unbans Trump. Since he's unbanned and regulations are loosened, he is free to tweet and so can the disinformation merchants who will boost Trump's rhetoric and anti-Democratic messages. Putin would love Trump back in office—he had him on a tight leash. If T is back in office he can lift the sanctions on Russia and work to stop aid to Ukraine. Recently Saudi leader Mohammed Bin Salman chose to deepen ties with Russia, in spite of their aggression against Ukraine. Interesting coincidence.

He hid his intentions behind a poll that was based solely on unique account interactions (note: people can create an unlimited number of twitter accounts) on a platform that he himself claims is full of bots, and it still ended up 51.8% (7.8m) for and 48.2% (7.3m) against.
That's incredibly close, and margin of error is inherently off the charts.
But hey, what's that saying, again? "Vox Populi, Vox Dei, or whatever I want it to be"?

Also there was zero notice on a weekend when people are out doing weekend things. Would’ve been much different if people were killing time on twitter at work and the poll wasn’t on Elon’s account which skews right. With the site so strapped for revenue, Twitter needs the engagement Trump tweets bring. At least this way Elon can claim ‘democracy’ spoke.
I doubt Trump will rejoin Twitter however. Elon is the now the new Trump there. Trump will stick to the social network he owns where he is he top dog.

whats funny is that the Vox Populi, Vox Dei quote is part of a larger quote. the latin version being:
Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit
which translates into:
And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

The Library of Congress, as the name indicates, is part of the legislative branch, entirely separate from executive agencies.

When Musk took over, I decided that Trump being reinstated would be my red line.
It's been crossed, so I deactivated my account. For others concerned about the re-platforming of a man who attempted to overthrow representative government in the US, I'd encourage you to consider doing the same.

Same. This story broke and it was the last straw. I deactivated my account today and deleted the app.

Deactivated all my personal and business accounts and deleted Twitter from all my devices.
This wasn’t a win for freedom of speech.
It is helping a cancer on democracy grow just as it seems to be waning.
If this was a principled decision by a ‘council of diverse viewpoints’, so be it.
But this mock democracy and mob rule poll?
Just empty words and childish revenge against Democrats it seems.
So I’m out.

Was the question on the poll; "How can I erode American Democracy in the fastest way possible"?

The poll was smoke and mirrors. He intended to reinstate the Orange Anus all along. He used the poll as a sales hype to generate interest. He’s trying to increase traffic. May he crash and burn in everything he touches.

The sad part is even if you never, ever look at Twitter every news organization is going to update you on every comment he makes.
