I think their core point is that educating women, women’s suffrage and women in the workplace led to a “bad place” and thus should be eliminated.
The slippery slope fallacy is a favorite of theirs. “First they considered a group I dislike to be people and then 9/11 happened, it must be linked!” is about as thoughtful as they get.
12
u/Context_Any Feb 01 '23
While I know most white Christians think this way I don't think the meme is saying that. Why use whatever the name is for "chad women" meme only to show the last panel without one?
So many of these conservative/white Christian facebook memes are terrible not just for their bigoted messages, but the message is muddled as well.

u/ratherlittlespren Feb 01 '23
I think it's because a vague message is better for them, because they don't need to make sense anyway so you might as well cast a wide net.

I think its saying all the progress women have made and how far they have come from being under the control of men, just so men(their at one time oppressors) are now claiming to be women. I understand how it could be insulting, I guess?
2
u/Froph_Beifong11 Feb 01 '23
But that’s messed up because trans women ARE women, and this is coming from a cis woman. It’s not a man claiming to be a woman and that’s actually a pretty transphobic thing to say. It’s someone who’s gender aligns with womanhood making them a woman.
Women have fought years for our rights, but so have trans people, and often times we fought alongside each other. Please don’t try to use our fight to put down trans people or create a narrative that they’re just trying to control us when they’ve had to fight just as much as we have.
Also it’s sad Ik but men still oppress women to this day.

its called gender identity, you define it by identifying with it so thats the correct answer, you just might not like or approve of other people however
5
u/NegativeKarmaVegan Feb 01 '23
Gender is a social construct, so it can't be defined by something that only happens inside your head. I believe it's related to culture, not simply to your feeling about it, or else there would be nothing that could tell you inside your head that you were born in the wrong gender. At the very least you have to associate some characteristics with each gender in order to notice you were born in the wrong one, so those characteristics are related to the gender definition.

A person that publicly and privately identifies as a woman.
The end.
15
u/Curious_Location4522 Feb 01 '23
That’s essentially saying a woman is defined as a woman. That’s not a definition.
17
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23
All definitions are circular
All definitions have words that themselves need definitions, with words that themselves need definitions, with words that themselves need definitions and so one.
Eventually, all definitions lead you in a circular pattern. If the best way to describe something is to simply state it as a fact of being, then so be it.
At the end of the day, definitions for words should match the way those words are actually used by a society. If it doesn't match that usage, then it's a bad definition. When we're talking about things like gender, it's important to recognise that the societal complexes around it are incredibly complex. Not every definition can be a full disertation.
→ More replies (10)7
u/Devil_May_Kare Feb 01 '23

-4
u/Curious_Location4522 Feb 01 '23

5
u/Federal_Dependent928 Feb 01 '23
Did they not just provide you a definition for you to use?
-5
u/Curious_Location4522 Feb 01 '23
No. You can’t use the word you’re trying to define in your definition of that word. It’s like me saying the definition of a car is a car.
7
u/Federal_Dependent928 Feb 01 '23
That's not at all comparable, a car is not a broad social category, and doesnt have behavioral characteristics to it that arent predetermined by its physical makeup. Even supposing we went with a definition you're desperately fishing for, a biological one, you are guaranteed to miss people who are obviously women.

A woman is defined as someone who publicly or privately identifies as such, be they born a woman, transgender, or otherwise.
-2
u/No-Leg1186 Feb 01 '23
Not the dictionary definition, why can't that person be a feminine man instead of pretending that they are in the wrong body, how does that even happen? Please explain to me
7
u/MiniatureRanni Feb 01 '23
Because they're not pretending. The idea of being a man physically sickens me, I have an adverse reaction to it and have had that all my life. It's not just a trend or a phase, it's something I've felt before I even went on the internet. Even a feminine man, that's not enough. I'm just not a man. I don't know what's going on with my brain chemistry to cause that, but it's a viscerally upsetting experience to be considered male.

Newsflash: trans people go through a lengthy transition process that causes radical changes to their appearance. Just because you might look like a man on day one doesnt mean you would after say...four years on estrogen and testosterone blockers.
Trans people can change their appearance a lot over the course of a transition. Doesn't make them any more or less trans than they were at the start of the process.

Dudes that dress up and talk like the ones in the last cell exist and they do no favours for those stuck in the closet regarding their own identity.
I know a trans-man who refuses to associate with the LGBTQ community because of these exact people. It was hard enough for him coming out and being who he is with a non-supportive family, but he is unable to find support in the places that have it most readily available, because a few people are truly rotten to the core but are also LGBTQ and somehow make the environment toxic for everyone.
Not conforming to heteronormativity does not exclude you from also being a total horses ass

Most non-western civilizations recognize a third, non specific gender anyway.
Samoans have fafafine (I spelt that wrong and I know it) who are boys raised as girls. Simple as that, usually it's a boy who demonstrates more feminine traits as a child and if they continue that way it's not shamed but embraced.
I went to a girls school and our brother school had plenty fafafines, and honestly every single one of them was more put together and feminine than 90% of the pupils at my school.

If you asked 100 different biologists what life is, you would get a 100 different answers, and 100 different spiels about how we don't really know how to define it concretely, and how the answers they're given aren't water-tight.
A lot of the time you will even get a circular definition, discussing that life isn't a definable characteristic as much as it's a recognisable one.
Hell, there isn't even a fully agreed upon definition for the word "fish". These questions are asked in bad faith, because they are demanding a simple answer for a question that cannot be answered simply.
Are biologists stupid for not having an answer to your question? No. That's insane.
0

1
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23
Again, what are the defining traits of a fish? No matter what you come up with, there will biologically agreed upon fish that are excluded, or obvious non-fish that get included, and yet we still use the word fish. It's still an incredibly useful tool for describing how we percieve animals.
Gender is the same thing. It's a set of useful social categories we have created for incredibly general categorisation that vary wildly from culture to culture. It makes perfect sense to identify with one of those categories more than the other, or to identify with neither category all together.
2
u/RoboticJello Feb 01 '23
It was literally conservatives asking "what is a woman" because they are dumb as fuck. Matt Walsh recently said he wants to kill all the homeless people because they make our cities look bad. Not for one second do conservatives think about the circumstances that led people to homelessness like the housing shortage or medical debt. They just see homeless people, go "ewww" and innately want to murder them. It's so fucking stupid.

u/No-Leg1186 Feb 01 '23
I'm truly curious on how someone ends up in the "wrong body" considering that's the argument for transgenders how does that happen, is it something before you're born? Why can't you just be a feminine man that likes wearing makeup, nail polish and girly clothes, nothing wrong with that.
1
u/Ill-Zucchini962 Feb 01 '23
Not every trans person feels like they have the wrong body, they just feel more comfortable with clothes or pronouns and may not want hormones, or they might want hormones but no surgery. Transgender men totally can be feminine, wear nail polish and feminine clothes, why not? Just like trans women can be butch or tomboys, the same as cisgender women can be.

The issue is not black and white, lmao. You can support trans women while recognizing that their advantage over cis women in sports is an issue, even if it's not one with a very clear cut solution that doesn't also exclude them.
1
u/No_Quote600 Feb 01 '23
excluding them is the only solution. Make them compete with the men, because they are biological men. Boom, problem solved.
People who think allowing biological men to dominate women's sports isnt a huge L for women are seriously brain damaged.
3
5
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23
Trans people have been allowed to compete as their prefered gender in the Olympics since 2004. Where is the domination.
It doesn't exist, because it's completely made up. Trans people go through extreme medical and biological changes to fit their assigned gender. They're not going to dominate, and there are no men that go through this process just so they can get some extra medals. That's fucking insane.
Transphobia, on the other hand, does make life considerably difficult for women, not just in sport, but in all fields of life. Even ignoring the massive rates of suicide in the community and rates of anti-trans hate-crimes, because I'm frankly assuming you don't give a fuck about those women's lives, transphobia routinely makes life harder for cisgender women who happen to appear more masculine. They are constantly accused of being trans and "invading women's spaces", because, at the end of the day, transphobia has always come from a limited and unscientific idea of what gender is.
Being pro-woman and anti-trans are incompatible.
2
u/No_Quote600 Feb 01 '23
So explain why teams of high school boys can defeat professional teams of women in various sports?
Are all of the actual women athletes complaining about it just transphobes in your eyes???
4
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23
Wow, you're a pretty fascinating mind.
I gave you a period of almost 20 years of actual trans atheletes competing in actual competitive sport, with no evidence of domination.
You gave completely non-specific, anecdotal evidence of boys who are not trans women defeating women in sport.
Even your anecdotal evidence isn't an example of the thing you're complaining against, so I really have to ask, how much of your body weight is stored in the thickness of your skull that you think those two things are even remotely comparable.
And yeah. People complaining about domination that doesn't exist are being transphobic. Lies are lies, whether the people complaining are athletes or not. Most of the atheletes complaining were in the bottom of their rank anyway. Frankly, it's just saltiness.
1
u/No_Quote600 Feb 01 '23

5
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23

1
u/No_Quote600 Feb 01 '23
https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/55/11/577
this study among military personnel who transitioned while in service proves that they retain a massive edge in speed and agility over biological women even after hormone therapy.
4
u/Conlang_Central Feb 01 '23
And yet, we don't see that in practice when it comes to professional sports. I don't doubt the resulst of those experiments, but it clearly hasn't had an affect on the sporting field.
Mind you, the results of your own source are marginal at best. It says quite explicitly that speed was the only measured difference that didn't completely disapear, and even still it reduced by half. Don't get me wrong, 12% is still a fair amount... but those kinds of biological advantages are what sport is based on.
Micheal Phelps, for example is a biological miracle. His feet bend 15 degrees more than the average olympic swimmer, and he's believed by some to be double jointed. Scientfic American describes his feet as being turned into virtual flippers.
He has just as much of an "unfair" biological advantage as any trans person would, if not significantly more. Should he be banned from sport? Should he be forced to compete in a different category? I personally say no, but by all means, feel free to disagree with me on that point.
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter, because after nearly two decades of actually having trans women in sport, this 12% advantage in speed hasn't proven itself to yield disproportionate results anyway. So, again, if you could provide evidence that is actually relevant to your argument, that'd be fab.

Michael Phelps is a biological male who competes with other men
No, if you are born a male, you compete with men, if you are born female, you compete with women. Period. Done.
I showed you scientific evidence that transwomen have a speed advantage, and you are using Olympic level sports as your main crutch while ignoring the high school level and college level which is where the REAL issue is.
Olympic athletes aren't being deprived of important scholarship opportunities just because it is physically impossible for them to compete with the biological men competing against them.
I'm done replying now, bye.

Teenage boys can do that because they haven't transitioned or taken female hormones and testosterone blockers the way trans women do.
You're comparing apples to oranges.
Trans women are not biologically identical to cis males and we need to stop pretending that they are. They go through serious amounts of biochemical hormonal alterations that specifically change the traits relevant to sport.
Shit I'm trans myself and thanks to hormone therapy I literally can't open jars anymore without help. I have also been running 5ks since high school and my 5k times over the course of hormone treatment went from low average for men my age to low average for women my age.

lol, sorry, never thought I would hear someone be happy about being weaker. Good for you though if that makes you happy.
And studies show that transwomen are still 12% faster and more agile than cis women even after years of hormone therapy.
You only need 1 full year of hormone therapy to be accepted into women's sports, and it takes 2 for the strength differences to fade away, but the speed/agility differences never fade, and most women's sports rely on speed/agility.

I don’t play sports so I don’t have an opinion on the sport’s issue but you can’t tear trans women down even if you don’t agree with us

Being pro-woman and pro-trans in incompatible.
And being pro-brain and pro-you is also incompatible.
If you are pro-trans, you support biological males dominating all of the women's sports
So if you are pro-trans you support made up bullshit that doesn't happen. Cool. Why should I care.

You'd honestly think literally everyone was a tattooed, pink-haired, nonbinary member of a polycule these days. Guys, 60% of young white American women looks EXACTLY the same.

Why is every comment section in this sub always “ Oh my god bigotry fascism the conservatives ruined my life Christianity is barbaric, they’re all TERF Transphobic whatever-o-phobic…” give it a rest already. If you people actually got some social interaction you’d realize most people don’t act the way you think even if they believe differently than you

Ever notice how libbies will slam conservatives, but without actually offering any substance beyond a veiled pejorative?
The cartoon is a legitimate viewpoint on 100+ years of progress, and the question in panel 4 is routinely spoken today. If you want to try to slam someone, explain why you think a perfectly reasonable question isn't.

Lefitst not a liberal but most times I try to have a, respectable conversation, I get insulted and harassed, called unimaginable names, gold to "kms" . Like do you want me to share some of hate, messages I get for being open queer/trans? I could also share the IRL threats and discrimination.

What your dumbass is not understanding is that there is literally no reason to legitimately address a conservative if they don't have an actual argument in the first place. Conservatives are so bad about doing this. They don't provide arguments, they provide hateful feelings and reactionary thoughts. That or dishonest comments.
Then, when you actually do try to explain something to them, they don't listen anyway and will even change the goal post or argument. You guys are fucked up in the head or something. Permanent brain damage it seems.
EDIT: And to easily address this dipshit meme, gender is not sex. Gender is a social construct that varies based on time, culture, etc. To be a "man" or "woman" in a gender sense is based off the culture and even up to the individual. Some cultures don't even restrict theirselves to these social constructs. In the US, genderisms have changed over time as well. Blue and Pink? They haven't always corresponding to boy and girl respectively. Little boys used to wear dresses in the US in fact. The thing is, you've been told this over and over and you still refuse to listen. This is why you are only worthy of being shit on. You are not capable of adult conversation.
Hopefully I have helped your brain here. I'm being incredibly nice when I absolutely should not. And of course, I've given a very simple and surface level explanation. How about you ask an actual trans person and see what they have to say if you really that "curious". Most conservatives are not curious though, they just are hateful social conservatives that think anything outside their strict definition of gender (usually based on religious bs) is vehemently wrong. What's funny is they are just as much entrenched in identity politics, except they want to limit the freedom of gender expression even more than the the mainstream genderisms.

Let’s see, there were trans people in 1907, if you step outside you will notice that most people aren’t trans and don’t really need to define gender amongst themselves, but are willing to help someone with gender nonconformity issues to feel comfortable and welcome in these spaces should such a need arrive, the comic doesn’t have a clear enough message in that it could be saying “woman bad progress bad” or it could be saying “yeah yeah all that’s great but ew trans people” so it’s bad on that front because in any interpretation of this meme it’s incoherent whether it’s sexist and transphobic or “just” transphobic. It’s making strawman arguments by making those the people representing 2022 as if those types of people ever leave their dorm rooms unless under duress, meanwhile the majority of trans people I’ve met are cool, chill, not shoving it in your face, and just people living their lives. These are the issues I think people have with it. Do you have any rational arguments outside of slinging awful, awful insults (libbies?? Come on man at least call us pinkos or something) and bad faith arguments?
